What is the Archie Brennan Project?

The Archie Brennan Project is a multi-faceted plan to bring Archie’s works to a broader audience.   Publishing a book about Archie is the largest part of this project.  It will be a large art book, full of color plates of Archie’s tapestries and drawings, with text that includes Archie’s many essays and writings, along with his life story. It will include a catalogue raisonne in the appendix.  We’d like to include a DVD of some of his works.

Another facet of the project is a retrospective exhibition of his work. We are looking for  venues and a curator!

We began this project almost two years ago, and to date here is what is happening!  Brenda Osborn has been transcribing many of Archie’s writings, both articles from magazines and essays he has written over the years, along with new material Archie is writing about his life story.  At this point the manuscript is about 75 pages long, and there is quite a bit more to do!

Sarah Doyle and I have been getting the images of Archie’s works cataloged.  He has woven over 450 tapestries and has countless drawings.  Needless to say, it is an awesome body of work that needs to be shared!

This project is a grass roots, volunteer effort,  and we have a strong will to see this project come to fruition!  If you also have a passion for this project, get in touch!  We’d be happy to hear from you! We welcome your contributions (both photographic and editorial) to this blog!

Here’s what you can contribute:  photos of workshops with Archie and Susan, editorial material about your experiences with Archie and/or Susan, any personal anecdotes.
